Samantha Hussey

Halloween always made me feel like it was okay to be a weird kid. It’s a symbol of fun, fear, and acceptance.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

After returning from trick 'r treating with my older brother when I was 7 and he was 10, we opted to trade our candies. One issue: neither of us liked Almond Joys at that age. However, my older brother managed to convince me that if I did take all his almond joys, in exchange for whatever candy he wanted in return from my pile, that I would be haunted by the ghost of the Almond Joy corporation. His scare tactics worked. I ate all the almond joys out of fear. I think about this often.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

It's not just because I've seen a ton of them - the Randy Meeks method can only help you so much. I know that I'm a person that knows how to get stuff done and can access that near animalistic sense of survival. It also helps that I grew up playing a lot of sports so I have some level of physicality going for me. If I were any kind of final girl, I would definitely be more in the Sidney Prescott from Scream or a Grace from Ready or Not.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

I would use half of it to fund a horror short film that I've been wanting to make and I would use the other half to do good things. I don't mean to be vague but ideally I would like to try and share the money with other filmmakers, spend some of it on my family and friends, and then donate some of it to local charities in Austin, Texas (where I'm based) to try and help the community.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My real life hero lately has been Mark Duplass. I look up to him so much because of what he does for indie filmmaking and he seems like a genuinely good person. I met him once for all of like 45 seconds but he was great. I also think because he's played a horror villain, insanely well I might add, that he might be good at getting into the mind of the killer or creature and helping to come up with a counter attack. Tim Robinson would be fun too but I think we'd both die.
