Matthan Brown

I don’t wait for Halloween to become someone else. I wait all year for the rest of the world to finally get a little weird with me.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

Dressing up as Michael Myers and spending Halloween night silently terrorizing trick or treaters around the neighborhood. There’s something incredibly satisfying about standing completely still until someone realizes you’re not a decoration… and then taking one step toward them. The screams told me the costume was working.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I’m MMA trained, so if the killer catches me, I’ve at least got a fighting chance. But my real survival skill is knowing the rules. I’m not investigating the weird noise, reading the creepy Latin, or splitting up. And I have absolutely no problem running away. Pride has killed a lot of people in horror movies.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

I’d put some away, then use the rest to make memories. Travel somewhere I’ve never been, bring someone I love along for the adventure, and probably spend an irresponsible amount making the next Halloween unforgettable. It’s unlucky money, after all. I feel like spending all of it responsibly would just be asking for bad luck.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My girlfriend, Kayla. She’s tough, stubborn in exactly the ways you’d want during a horror movie, and someone I trust completely when things get chaotic. We’d probably argue about the escape plan for five minutes, but we’d make it out. And if we didn’t, at least I picked pretty damn good company for the sequel.
