Kelly Brady

I cut my teeth on Stephen King stories and now write my own. Halloween is more than a holiday - it’s a thematic awakening for us!

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

My most memorable Halloween experience is from the year we did a Peter Pan theme: my daughter was Wendy, another daughter was a pirate, a friend was Peter, my granddaughter was Tinkerbell... and I was Peter's shadow. Another year my daughter and granddaughter were Morticia and Wednesday and I was Uncle Fester. Or the year I looked more like Silent Bob than Kevin Smith. Or the year my daughter's class did a Haunted School fundraiser and I was a zombie who kept apologizing for scaring people.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I would make it to the end of a horror movie because I wouldn't go in hot-headed. I'd let everyone else take the stupid chances... and when the last person makes their move, I'll use it as a diversion and make my escape, primed for the sequel. I haven't studied Stephen King, Supernatural, Scream and Nightmare movies - and survived growing up in our own haunted house -to be caught flat footed! Besides, as a born-again virgin, I’m the canon definition of the sole survivor…

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

My mom has never been on a cruise, so I'd do that first. I'm writing a supernatural horror screenplay, so I'd also use some of the winnings to fund that. The rest? I'd fund Halloween festivities for my kids and grandchildren for years... Maybe something for my dog, who is scarily adorable.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

I would want to survive a horror movie with Mariska Hargitay. Not only is she amazing as Olivia Benson, I respect and admire the work she does for assault survivors with her Joyful Heart Foundation. She turned her work as an iconic crusader for victim/survivor justice into real-life assistance and hope in dark hours.
