Jason Collins

Born Michael Jason before the movies hit screens, Friday the 13th runs in my name. Hockey mask or desert dust, Jason always endures.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

Running the neighborhood streets until pillowcases were overflowing, back when the entire community left their porch lights on and kids had total freedom after dark. That raw, classic neighborhood tradition doesn't happen the same way anymore. Now, keeping that classic Halloween atmosphere alive for my kids and grandkids—carving pumpkins, sharing ghost stories around a desert fire pit, and celebrating the season's genuine mystery—is what makes it unforgettable every single year.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I don't run upstairs, I don't check out weird basement noises alone, and I don't drop my tools. As an off-roader, tech builder, and remote-desert traveler, self-reliance and situational awareness are second nature. When engines die, comms glitch, or conditions turn rough, I don't panic or freeze—I find the choke points, lock in reliable gear, and take the direct escape route out. The slasher relies on bad decisions; I plan exits before turning the key.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

I’d turn that 'unlucky' $13,000 into pure gold. I’d take my wife on the adventure of a lifetime to Nome, Alaska, to prospect the legendary Bering Sea beaches under the midnight sun next summer. As an avid prospector, running our highbanker on those historic golden sands together has always been our dream. A wild, rugged expedition beats bad luck any day!

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My daughter, Courtney. For her 11th Christmas, all she wanted was lettuce and an M16 to survive a zombie apocalypse, proving her survival instincts started early. Today, she navigates real life raising three kids: her 6-year-old, a 5-year-old with special needs, and a 1-year-old baby. She handles that relentless pressure like an absolute champion with patience, grit, and fierce love. If a real horror movie played out, she is the only partner I would ever want watching my back.
