Halloween is a state of mind. I feel it like the air I breathe. It pulses through my blood, calling to those who still believe in the dark.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

My most memorable Halloween was October 27, 2013, right before I enlisted in the Navy. My friends and I went to Hollywood Forever Cemetery to watch The Craft. Feeling inspired afterward, we tried some Hoodoo spells my grandmother had taught me. As we called out for a presence, we felt something move through our hair and then watched some of our spell ingredients shift on their own. We may not have had The Craft’s wicked abilities, but that night made us wonder.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I’d make it to the end of a horror movie because I apparently have the superpower of invincibility. I’ve survived numerous near-death experiences and somehow walked away unscathed every time. My streak started at birth during the 1994 Northridge earthquake, where I had my first brush with death. Since then, I’ve defied medical odds and survived moments of pure dumb luck. At this point, I’m convinced even the killer would eventually give up. I was born a survivor.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

With my unlucky $13,000, I’d take my wife and me to the Carnival of Venice, where we’d lose ourselves in lavish masquerades, mysterious galas, and candlelit balls. We’d become a sexy female duo in our own interpretation of The Phantom of the Opera dramatic gowns, elaborate masks, and all. For one unforgettable night, we wouldn’t just visit Venice; we’d disappear into the mystery and romance of a forgotten time.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My real-life hero is my wife, Taré. She’s the brains of every horror movie the one who could get everyone to the end if they’d just listen to her! Her intuition and incredible memory complement mine, and she has an unmatched eye for the details everyone else misses. She’d figure out the killer, the motive, and the escape route while I handled the surviving. With her brains and my apparent invincibility, no horror movie could take us down.
