What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

I’ve had a lifetime of great Halloween memories, but nothing compares to watching my love for Halloween become part of Wicked Bread. Seeing people walk through our doors and instantly light up because they’ve found a place where it’s okay to love spooky season 365 days a year is pretty special. I guess my most memorable Halloween experience is realizing I never really had to grow out of it—I just found a way to bring everyone else along.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

Because I’ve watched enough horror movies to know exactly what NOT to do. I’m not investigating the strange noise, I’m not reading the Latin out loud, I’m not splitting up, and if the creepy old guy at the gas station tells me to turn around—I’m turning around. Most importantly, I have absolutely no problem leaving everyone else behind. Survival first. Apologies later.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

I’d put it toward creating something unforgettable for Halloween—something that brings people together, scares them a little, and makes them feel like kids again. Halloween has given me a lifetime of memories, so turning an unlucky $13,000 into memories for other people feels like pretty good luck to me.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My wife, Betty. She’s my real-life hero, my partner in everything, and considerably more sensible than I am. I’d bring the horror-movie knowledge; she’d bring the common sense. That’s how you make it to the sequel.
