Chris Stein

I helped build and run a Haunted Barn in the ’80s & ’90s and I’m known for being a terrifying Michael Myers. It isn’t a holiday. It's me.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

At our Haunted Barn, the final room had a guy with a chainsaw that purposely wouldn’t start. People would laugh and head for the exit, thinking the scare had failed. Then, from behind a hidden curtain, a second guy would fire up another chainsaw! Watching everyone scream and scramble for the door while we got the last laugh was priceless. Decades later, it’s still one of my favorite Halloween memories!

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I’ve spent enough years being the one doing the scaring to know exactly what NOT to do! I’m not checking out the strange noise, going into the basement alone, or saying “I’ll be right back.” And after years of playing a terrifying Michael Myers, I know how the killer thinks. While everyone else is running upstairs with nowhere to go, I’m grabbing the car keys and heading out of town. I’ll see you in the sequel!

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

First, I’d prove there’s nothing unlucky about $13,000! I’d use some of it to create an epic Halloween experience for family and friends, complete with plenty of scares. I’d also give some to a local charity because turning “unlucky 13” into something good feels like the perfect ending. And whatever is left? I might finally build the Michael Myers setup that’s been living in my head for years!

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My wife, Kristin. After 26 years of marriage, raising two amazing daughters and surviving all of my crazy ideas, a horror movie should be easy! She’s my best friend, my concert buddy and the person I’d want beside me when things get scary. Plus, while everyone else is making terrible horror-movie decisions, I know she’d be the one saying, “Absolutely NOT, we are not going in there!” We’d make it to the credits together.
