Sonya Brake

Semi-Finalist

I've loved Halloween my whole life. I love coming up with new ideas for my costumes, especially the make up. Scream is my "comfort" movie.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

Winning "most creative costume" award at an Halloween party. And not specifically halloween related but in July 2025 my sister in law and I visited an abandoned insane asylum at 10:30 at night, walked the property and took pictures and videos..... not only did I capture a few photos with some unexplainable things, my sister in law caught something on video in one of the abandoned buildings that even after trying to debunk, we could not explain. 2 of the photos are posted below.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

Having watched scary movies for 35 years,Ive created my own tips to surviving a horror movie: 1) Hear a strange sound? IGNORE IT. 2) Walk into a room thats completely dark? LIGHTS ON. 3) Lights dont work? NOT GOING IN. 4) Anything can be a weapon. 5) Listen to your gut instincts- if something feels off it probably is. 6) Always have an escape route - Be aware of your surrounings at all time. 7) Last but not least, Trust no one. Not your best friends, your significant other, not even your dog.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

- plan a trip to Salem for a friend and I; Ive been wanting to visit for a very long time. Perhaps fit in a visit to Sleepy Hallow too 🎃 - take a special FX/makeup class or course. I'm creative when it comes to makeup but I want to be better. - buy more halloween/spooky decor because I can never have enough.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

My mom - she's a bad ass and there would be no quitting or giving up on her watch. Everything and anything would be a weapon and she would make sure we would fight our way out.
