Sarah Mackenzie Baron

A believer in Halloween year round, there isn’t a single part of my life that hasn’t been touched by horror. My Sweet 16 was even 06/06/06.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

When I was in 4th grade, after years of begging, my mom finally allowed me to pick out my first Halloween prosthetic. At our local Halloween store I selected a silicone bloody gash held together with safety pins for my neck. After the adhesive had dried, I ran out to show my best friend grinning ear to ear whilst she was genuinely terrified of me. If my fate wasn’t already sealed as a Halloween Queen, it certainly was from that moment forward. You can find a photo from this day in my gallery!

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

I'm not hot enough to be the damsel in distress, I'm too smart to be the non-believer, and I'm not strong enough to be the jock. But I am clever, resourceful, and obnoxiously observant enough to be your Final Girl. Watching horror movies with me can often be anything but fun because I typically figure out the twist before the exposition has even finished being dumped. Blood doesn't bother me, gore doesn't twist my stomach, and I would never bring a creepy doll into my home.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

Boringly, and in the most American of fashion, I have debts and student loans to pay off. But, I would still love to set aside a bit of cash to finally finish furnishing my apartment with everything Spirit Halloween has to offer, and maybe get a couch that I didn't find on the street. Lastly, I’d get my cat, Coraline, a lifetime supply of catnip and treat my mom to a vacation.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

Undoubtedly, I would share the title of final girl(s) with my mom; she is the one who indoctrinated me into the world of all things spooky & you can spot her in several of my photos. Every Halloween we would reimagine the entire front of our house/garage to be our neighborhood's haunted house & annual nightmare fuel. On top of that, my she would make whatever costume my creepy little mind could create. We continue to exchange horror movie recommendations and wear our matching skull jewelry.
