The year after COVID, Halloween felt extra special as neighbors gathered again. I volunteered to hand out candy, but instead of standing by the door, I joined our family’s haunted yard setup. My costume let me blend in so well I looked like a lifeless prop. Kids would whisper, unsure if I was real—until I moved. Their screams quickly turned to laughter, and that mix of surprise and joy made it one of my most memorable Halloweens.
