Akayllah McEwan

i can handle the real horror—the hidden monsters people hide inside and the unknown that scares most, but for me, it’s just curiosity.

What’s your most memorable Halloween experience?

one year (oct of 2019) i was dragged to slaughter-land by my friends (& at the time i was so bad with horror). i remember the whole experience being so terrifyingly amazing that it invested me more into horror. besides that though, my main weakness is jump scares and there was this one moment in the park when i was jump scared so bad (in the dark) i smacked my face into a metal pole and split my eyebrow. i did leave with a bit of a leaking eyebrow but it was totally worth it tho.

Tell us why you would make it to the end of a horror movie.

i’d survive a horror movie because i have studied fear. i understand which situations not to put myself in, and i can recognize danger if i’m in it. i know how to read people, see who i can and can’t trust, and figure out my options fast. fear doesn’t freeze me—it informs me.

What would you do with the unlucky $13,000?

i would give a decent amount to my mother unexplainably, another part i would give to a mental health charity of some sort for my bestfriend who took her life, some would be spent on necessities for my dog and the rest i would either put towards my college expenses, savings bor a car.

Who is your real-life hero who you would want to survive a horror movie with?

i know this is probably clichè but my real-life hero would be my mom. i’ve seen her persevere through things i didn’t think were possible without help. she’s my go-to for advice or support and always stays level-headed and understanding when i’m too in my head. in a horror movie, she’d keep me grounded while i read the danger—we’d make it out together.
